Our Program

Program Overview

This dental assisting program has been designed to train dental assistants quickly, but effectively.  Our goal is to provide you with not only the knowledge needed, but practical hands on experiences to help you hit the ground running. It will be fast-paced and demanding. Students are required to do reading and homework throughout the week in preparation for classes on Saturday, which includes lecture in the morning from 8AM-12PM and clinical/lab (hands on learning) in the afternoon from 1PM-5PM with a 1 hour lunch break 12PM-1PM. Students are encouraged to intern at dental offices to gain experience and knowledge of how different dental offices operate. This will be especially encouraged after students have completed week 2 of training. Students will also have more hands on opportunities within the Apple Tree Dental office during the work week.

Because of the demand for dental assistants, dental offices often hire people with little to no training or experience and then provide them with on-the-job training. As a result of the demand for dental assistants, RADA created a dental assistant program that teaches the necessary entry level skills needed to work in a dental office. The program is condensed so that students may go from the classroom to the workplace quickly.

Training focuses on the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to work in a dental office. Students learn in an actual dental office and get familiar with the work environment before their first day on the job.

What is a Dental Assistant?

A dental assistant is a valuable  member of the dental office team. Dental assistants are healthcare providers who assist the dentist in dental procedures like fillings, root canals, orthodontics, extractions, and more. Dental assistants are usually with the patient throughout the entire appointment. Dental assistants understand that patients often have some anxiety about seeing the dentist. They are there to make sure the patient is comfortable and calm while also seeing that the appointment flows efficiently.

Dental assistants may also do administrative work such as answering phones, speaking with insurance companies, and taking payments.

According to the American Dental Association, “The duties of a dental assistant are among the most comprehensive and varied in the dental office. The dental assistant performs many tasks requiring both interpersonal and technical skills.
